About us

The aim of the society is to ‘foster the generation and dissemination of knowledge of microbiology in Aotearoa New Zealand’.We achieve our stated aims through representation on national and sometimes international committees, as well as with an annual scientific meeting and smaller workshops organised around specific themes. In addition, the society makes submissions on issues relevant to practicing microbiologists or to education policies in Aotearoa New Zealand.

About NZMS
Membership (become a member)
Membership of the society is open to all by application. Fees are kept as low as possible and we particularly encourage students to join the NZMS as part of their own professional development. We also offer some financial support to enable student members to attend the annual scientific meeting of the society.
Non Profit
The NZMS is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers from all microbiological professions and backgrounds. The society governance and day to day management is carried by an executive in accordance with the constitution of the society.
